About us
Life enthusiasts, cyclists (road, MTB, gravel), hikers, outdoors lovers, foodies, parents of three daughters (and a beautiful grandson) — persistent dreamers and now the proud owners of a B&B and restaurant!
Ole has worked in the business world for many years, including in dental technology and printing. Since 2008, he has run his own construction and painting company. A man with two right hands, a technical mind, a solution-oriented spirit — and incredibly creative.
Filippa has spent many years in the media industry, with the last 15 years as an executive assistant at Warner Bros. ITVP in Amsterdam. She was responsible for management support, organizing events, nurturing the company’s social cohesion — and was also the key person for workplace environment and safety. A woman who has everything under control!
We’ve been together since 1987 and have three adult daughters. So, what now? A dream: to create something together — something we can build with love and energy during our remaining working years. And when we combine our strengths, 1 + 1 = 3!
We left behind the stress of the Netherlands for space, nature, fresh air, and peace. And hey – Filippa is half Swedish and speaks the language. Sweden has everything we were looking for: space, beautiful nature, clean air. For years we had been reading about emigrating to Sweden and traveled around in search of the right place. There were many options, but in the end, we chose Småland. Easy to reach from the Netherlands, and offering everything we were dreaming of — and more!
Our original plan was to renovate an old farm, but that idea was quickly shelved — it turned out to be both difficult and extremely expensive due to building permit regulations. And then suddenly, we found it...
...RYD! Three buildings next to each other: the old railway hotel, the stationmaster's house, and the packing room. Traveling salesmen once displayed their goods here for local sale (and stayed overnight in the hotel). For the past 15 years, the buildings had been used as a school. The school moved out — and we saw huge potential.
And here we are. Of course, with an old building like this, it’s no small task — more things need to be addressed than you’d think.
We haven’t changed anything about the building’s character — it’s beautiful just the way it is. But we’ve made adjustments in terms of safety, and naturally gave it a new coat of paint, some wallpaper, and a lot of love. It’s cost us time, money, and some frustration — but it was worth it!
And we’re creative. Old chairs are reupholstered. The tableware? Still perfectly usable. Second-hand shops (loppis) are hugely popular in Sweden — and we love them. Did we mention that Ole is handy?
The Ryds Gästgiveri project is still in progress — and it will likely always be a living project, constantly evolving. But we’re already incredibly proud of what we’ve created.
And just a little more about us: we don’t just enjoy what we do — we truly love welcoming guests and seeing them enjoy themselves.
We warmly welcome you to our home and look forward to having you as our guest!
